Current Wicked star Erin Mackey will complete the cast of Roundabout Theatre Company's forthcoming Broadway mounting of Sondheim on Sondheim. The new musical production, conceived and directed by James Lapine with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, begins previews March 19 at Studio 54, with an official opening scheduled for April 22. Mackey departs Wicked on January 10.
Mackey joins previously announced stars Barbara Cook, Vanessa Williams, Tom Wopat, Leslie Kritzer, Norm Lewis, Euan Morton and Matthew Scott in a show described as an intimate portrait of the famed composer in his own words and music. Throught the use of exclusive interview footage, audiences will take an inside look at Sondheim's personal life and artistic process while an ensemble cast performs new arrangements of over two dozen Sondheim songs, ranging from the beloved to the obscure.
Mackey recently made her Broadway debut as Glinda in Wicked, following long runs with the show's Chicago and Los Angeles companies. Film and television credits include The Parent Trap, Do Over and Family Affair. She participated in the most recent workshop of Sondheim on Sondheim.
The show's design team includes Beowulf Boritt (sets), Susan Hilferty (costumes), Ken Billington (lights), Dan Moses Schreier (sound) and Peter Flaherty (projections).
